As the new year gets into full swing, March has so many things to offer for all of us, whatever our favorite things to do happen to be. For those interested in hobbies in general, and specifically the World of Model Railroading, there are several opportunities you may want to consider. For starters, scheduled for March 17, there will be a Model Railroad Train Swap Meet at the Adobe Mountain Train Park. It’s a nice trip up there and a fun location for those interested, with even the opportunity to ride aboard a train around the local area. For further information and hours of operation, call 623-670-1904. The Swap Meet will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., and there is a $5.00 entry fee.
Out at Apache Junction on March 10 and 11, you may want to head out to enjoy the Blue Grass Festival in the wide-open spaces there. Admission is free, which will include several model railroad displays, both indoor and outdoor, plus, of course, the food and entertainment that go along with any event of this nature. The Short Line Model Railroad Club has been invited to participate at that event. For additional information, check out their website to view their flyer, or you can call 480-203-1796 for additional information or directions.
Once again, by popular demand, there will be at least three Open Houses later in the month in the Sun Lakes area. Dates that these model railroad layouts will be open to the public will be from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on March 24 and 25. The two locations in Oakwood are 9028 E. Cooper Hawk Drive and 9401 E. Jadecrest Drive, and you won’t want to miss the impressive layout in Ironwood at 10432 E. Cedar Waxing Court, a short trip past the Alma School guardhouse. All the locations are within gated communities, and the guards should be able to assist you on the days of the event. We’re looking forward to having a nice turnout. Get those calendars up to date, and hope to meet up with many of you there.
