The board is made up of seven directors who serve three-year staggering terms elected by the membership. This year, SunBird will have two director positions available on the board. This election period, two homeowners have completed applications and are interested in being elected to these open positions. Even though two people are running for two seats, they will still need to be elected by the membership following a formal election. Additional information about these candidates is available on SunBird’s website and at the clubhouse. Immediately following the board of directors meeting on Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. in the ballroom, the candidates will be present for a Meet & Greet. The two candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to three-year terms each. Ballots will be mailed to all SunBird homeowners by Oct. 1. The deadline for returning ballots is Saturday, Nov. 15, at 4 p.m. Don’t forget to vote! Meet this year’s candidates:

I am currently serving on the board of directors as president. During my tenure on the board, I have worked closely with management and committees to keep the clubhouse updated. Some projects included upgrading the outdoor lighting for safety and security, installing energy-efficient windows, and replacing the balcony railings by the Lakeview Room to be in compliance with ADA. I helped update the Bylaws and the Book of Policies to ensure they are in compliance with state law.
I live in SunBird full time and participate in many activities, such as beanbag baseball, attending tribute band shows and outdoor concerts, and many other provided activities. I volunteer in many ways to help our community.
The Horizon Room isn’t only a great restaurant, but a place to get together with old friends and to make new ones. I hope to work with management to come up with ideas to encourage more residents to take advantage of this great amenity.
My goal is to continue to work with the board and management to ensure that SunBird remains debt-free. I am open to new ideas to keep SunBird a viable, friendly community.
I hope I can count on your vote.

I am coming to the end of my first three-year term as a SunBird HOA board member. During that time, I have enjoyed learning how the board and subsequently the HOA works. I have been impressed with my fellow board members, especially how they have proven to work in unison to solve problems and make SunBird a great place to live. Working with the Rules Committee has been fun, educational, and even humorous at times. I have learned more about how and why things work here at SunBird. I have not always agreed with some of the rules, but understanding their history and reason for being makes it easier to accept.
The biggest reason I would be interested to serve on the board and, thus, SunBird is that there is unfinished business I would like to see through. The last three years has seen both the board and the golf community come together where possible. Regardless of the negative forces at our gates, I look forward to having a more cohesive community. I have been humbled by the attention and respect given to me as a member. I appreciate the trust tendered in my direction.
