The 2019 Bocce Ball Marathon is in full swing. The competition is fast and furious. Through mid-February, 80 SunBird residents have participated in over 500 games of bocce. Before the Marathon is over, we will have played over 1000 games. The Marathon participants have been divided into four leagues, and each competing team must play each team on their league roster. Competition will continue through March 15 with the play-off event scheduled for March 28 at 2 p.m. All SunBird residents are invited to attend the final play-off and cheer for their favorite team. Bring your own beverage and a snack to share to the final event.
The standings as of mid-February are neck and neck. Just wait for the final week of play!
The bocce ball courts, located at the intersection of Championship Drive and Kerby Farms Road, are available for your use daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Equipment is located in the bench seat at the south side. The rules of the game are included in a folder in the bench or are easily found on the Internet if you want to study up. If you are new to the game, the Bocce Ball Club plays every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. to practice, teach, and encourage new participants.
