SunBird Team Championship Golf Tournament set for November 22

The 2014 Team Championship Golf Tournament will take place at the SunBird Golf Club on Saturday, November 22. This tournament, also known as the CRAB Tournament, consists of teams from the Canadian Club, Roadrunners Club, Americans and the Bandits Club, thus, the acronym CRAB; 30 golfers from each group face off in a head to head competition. The winner of the 2013 competition was the Canadian Club who is eagerly looking forward to defending its title. Again this year a pre-tournament party and auction (open to participants and non-participants) will be held on the patio on Friday, November 21 starting at 3:00 p.m. All proceeds from this tournament and auction are presented to the SunBird Golf Club for use on capital projects. These proceeds have totaled approximately $20,000 over the past two years thanks to the many contributions of items to be sold and the efforts of auctioneer Joel Sybesma. The tournament committee is looking forward to another successful event.

While this article is somewhat early with respect to the date of the tournament, it is desired to give everyone a heads up on planning to play and for golfers and non-golfers alike to start looking for items to donate for the auction. Questions may be directed to the following committee members: Canadians – Wes Akerman and Kenly Matheson; Roadrunners – Norm Ott and Bill Johnson; Americans – Jack Cooper; and Bandits – John Kane and Lew Lepore. Look for more information in the November paper and on the club bulletin boards.
