The Senior Lockbox Program. Please visit the Chandler Police Department website (www.chandlerpd.com) for program registration, which involves completing a Senior Lockbox Application, or call the police department’s non-emergency number, 480-782-4130.

What is a lockbox? A residential lockbox is a small metal box that opens with a proprietary key that only the police and fire departments have access to. The box is mounted on the exterior of the home, and the homeowner provides a house key and/or screen door key to be permanently locked in the box. The residential box is like, but smaller than, the commercial lockbox that every City of Chandler business is required to have.

Why would I want one? In many emergency situations, an individual who calls 911 may not be able to open their door when the police or firefighters arrive. This is especially true with senior citizens who suffer a fall, stroke, or heart attack. In these instances, every second counts. Currently, the police or firefighters must break through a door or window, causing damage, costing money, and valuable time.

When should you call the police? In general, you should always call 911 when someone’s life, safety, health, or property is in immediate danger. Call the police when a crime, such as a theft, burglary, robbery, an individual trespassing on your property, immediate danger and/or a life-threatening situation, or you fear for your personal safety or the safety of others, especially if it is still in progress.

Contact Chandler Police to report stalking and stalking-related incidents and/or threats. Reporting the crime to police could prevent further crimes being committed and protect others from becoming victims.

Some of the most common types of police calls for police departments: traffic collisions and hit and run, noise disturbance (loud music and parties), disturbances (fights or pending fights, arguments), drug activity, suspicious person or activity, and medical calls requiring a police presence.

The importance of police reports. Police reports serve as the starting point of a law enforcement investigation. The reports record facts that can be useful in investigating and prosecuting crimes. They provide crime victims with a legal document to use as evidence for court hearings and insurance claims. The most common reason why the police are not notified is because the victim was afraid of reprisal or of getting the offender in trouble. Sometimes, the victim believes that the crime was not important enough to report. It is especially important that you call the police and have an IR (Incident Report) completed so that you are listed as a victim. When crimes or even non-criminal incidents are not reported to the police, victims may not be able to obtain necessary services to cope with the victimization, and the offender may go unpunished.
