Line Dancing with Judee resumes in September

Judee Curtis

August is a month when we missed dancing together; however, we all needed a break; it really was difficult to keep cool for two to four hours; the clubhouse was closed and the floor was refinished; we have something worthwhile to look forward to in September; and it gives me a chance to look for new dances, revive classic old dances, redo our favorites that have been resting and always finding the best music for a dance.

Most people read books on vacation time. I read step sheets. There are so many dances to choose from and I always want them to be good footwork, fairly easy to teach and learn as we don’t want this activity to be work and choosing the best music with a good beat, clean lyrics and a song we just might want to sing while dancing.

Basics Plus class has the opportunity to attend two classes if your schedule allows. There are classes restarting Saturdays beginning September 6 in the Navajo Room upstairs in the SunBird Clubhouse at Noon-2:00 p.m.; $3 for the time danced that day and Mondays in the SunBird Ballroom from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; $3 for the time danced that day. Ultra Basics class is a prerequisite to the Basics Plus Class.

Ultra Basics is for starting dancers if schedules allow restarting on Saturdays, beginning September 6 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Mondays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. for $3. You will be learning what to do with your feet, learning what foot you will use next, placing your body so it’s easier to dance and feels better, while learning dances. The key word in this paragraph is “learning,” which is the secret to enjoying line dancing.

If you are reading this article, you are most welcome to dance with us. If you are new to these classes you must call Judee Curtis, a full-time resident in SunBird, at 480-802-0201 after 10:00 a.m. to register.

While dancing and learning to line dance you will be exercising your body but mostly your mind. The hours you dance with us will help you escape this crazy world and sometimes those aches and pains just seem to disappear, at least for a while.
