As the summer is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, September is typically the month in the Valley when things start to happen, as the fall season, with all its benefits, is just around the corner. Unfortunately, with the coronavirus still a major part of our daily lives, most activities locally are still in a holding pattern, and although we are seeing some signs of relaxing, the future regarding this is still uncertain. Some good advice, I believe, would be to stay close to the media and local publications as sources for updates, and follow the guidelines set in place for your own safety as suggested by the professionals.
The Desert Navy usually meets monthly from September to May in normal times. Because of the current situation, our next meeting has been pushed back to the November timeframe. Meetings are held in the Lakeview Room of the SunBird Community Center on the third Friday of the month. Any changes regarding any of the above will be passed on to all members as they become available and in a timely manner.
During these tough times of uncertainty, as mentioned in our previous article, the staff of the Desert Navy and Korean War Veterans have made arrangements with the IHOP management located on Arizona Avenue for the use of their back room for lunch each Tuesday at 2 p.m. All are welcome; however, if you are planning on attending, I suggest you contact Rich Volpe or Leon “Skip” Johnson for details for the reason that, as per the governor’s office guidelines, social distancing and masks when entering their facility are requirements and followed by their restaurant staff. Rich can be reached at 480-802-2532 and Leon at 970-481-3005.
Have a great day and look forward to seeing you all soon.
