Charlotte Wiard

If you are not traveling to the four corners of the United States for the summer, you can continue honing your skills on the tennis courts or play some competitive tennis.

The SunBird Tennis Club’s summer schedule is as follows:

Tuesday and Thursday

6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Courts 1,2,3 and 4 – Sign up at the board

Wednesday

6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Courts 1, 2, 3 and 4 – Women’s Doubles Riggs Road

Saturday and Sunday

Open Play All Day – Sign up at the board. If you play pickleball, tennis or basketball, all the courts are available on the weekends.

The men generally play tennis on Tuesday and Friday, and the women play Tuesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday’s, Women’s Riggs Road is a great way to play competitive tennis against the other clubs up and down Riggs Road. Level of play is 3.0 to 4.0.

SunBird’s longtime resident Ray White started Riggs Road back in the ‘90s, and at that time, it originally started out as mixed doubles. Over the years, it evolved into women’s doubles and continues to this day. It is a wonderful tribute to a gentleman who loved the game of tennis and spent many hours at the tennis courts helping residents learn the game. We continue to honor his devotion to tennis every year. Marj White still lives at SunBird and continues to be a great supporter of the tennis club. Thank you, Marj.

If you are interested in playing early during the summer, contact Charlotte Wiard, club president, at [email protected]. We can help get you started or continue to play this summer.
