SunBird Team Championship Tournament set for November 18

Norm Ott

Plans are underway for the 2017 edition of the popular SunBird Team Championship Golf Tournament, affectionately known as the CRAB Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017. CRAB is an acronym for Canadians, Roadrunners, Americans and Bandits which are the four teams that play a head-to-head competition for the most points and the resultant bragging rights for the year. Thirty foursomes, each consisting of a player from each club, tee it up in this competition.

This CRAB event is a major fundraiser for the golf course. All proceeds, after expenses from the tournament itself, go to the golf course. In addition, the tournament committee holds a special auction on the Friday afternoon before the Saturday play. All money raised from this auction also goes to the golf course. The 2016 tournament and auction proceeds to the golf course were approximately $13,500.

The auction, as mentioned, will be held on Friday afternoon, November 17, 2017, on the clubhouse patio. All of the items auctioned off and sold are donated by SunBird community individuals and local businesses and include, among others, used and new golf equipment and supplies, gift baskets, gift certificates, baked goods, etc. More auction details will be forthcoming in the November issue of the SunBird News. In the meantime, team captains, let’s get the word out to your folks about donations for the auction, and let’s fill the rosters for the tournament.
