SunBird American German Club news

Trish Deflieze

The long, hot summer may not be over in Arizona, but the new season for the SunBird American German Club has officially started. Welcome back all our travelers and congratulations to all those hardy members who remained here.

Our first meeting of the season will be held on September 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ballroom. Plans for our October 28 Oktoberfest meeting will be discussed. As always, input from our members is eagerly sought. The Board wants to hear your ideas and wishes for Oktoberfest.

Let’s make the new year successful with lots of participation and enthusiasm from our membership.

Gunter and I went north for a few weeks. We drove as far as Calgary, Alberta, Canada and explored many new places en-route. But first we spent the Fourth of July with our children and grandchildren in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Everything was so green and we had rain on several occasions.

One of the highlights of the summer for us was the Football World Cup held in Brazil. We watched as many matches as possible. We rooted for different teams sometimes and were both sorry to see the elimination of the USA team. Of course, for Gunter, the icing on the cake was to see Germany win against Argentina and receive the Football World Cup. If you missed that game, all I can say is it was a well fought match with both sides playing superbly. Congratulations to Germany, wunderbar.

The American German Club welcomes new members. Anyone who lives in SunBird and has an interest in German history and/or culture is welcome.

Auf wiedersehen
