SBGA Inc. report from general manager

March brings longer days and earlier tee times. Call in for tee times will be at 7:00 a.m. Shotguns will be at 8:00 a.m. and noon. The 9 Holes for $10 walk-on special will be extended to include Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays after 4:00 p.m. beginning this month. Throughout the month of March the Pro Shop will be offering close out specials. Check out the new Croc sandals. Trade your greenbacks for discounted merchandise at the St. Patrick’s Day sale on Tuesday, March 17.

Take a look in that elegant box at the tee on Hole No. 1 for the scorecard and pencil you forgot to pick up in the Pro Shop.

Tournaments for March are the Canadians at noon on March 15 and the Roadrunners at 8:00 a.m. on March 21. Canada/American competition heats up with the Conley Cup on March 25, 27 and 28. Come out and support your team.

Most SunBird golfers enjoy three and a half hour rounds; very few enjoy four hour rounds. USGA recommends:

Keep up with the group in front of you.

Be ready to hit as soon as it is your turn.

Leave the putting green immediately after playing and move to your next hole before recording scores.

Two recent initiatives have proven very successful. The Men Niners have increased their numbers substantially and the Lady 18ers and 9ers joint shotguns are popular and efficient. Timing of the double shotguns was on target by the end of January and we thank all players for their cooperation in staging patiently on Waterview.

Is there any other community with as many dedicated volunteers as SunBird? In January this meant a team placing our huge tee markers in a bed of pebbles. Thanks to Dean Tucker, Arnie Teal, Bob Gerber, John Kane, Richard Craig, Dean Huyghebaert, Lee Stepek, Gary Whistler, John Krupnik, Gary Hall, Norm Ott, Jeff Andrews, Mike Goldade, Ray Fuller, Brian Robinson and Ray Bierowicz. Two ladies from the Garden Club, Alice Whistler and Gudie Huffman, added rocks and plants. This project really gave the tee boxes a touch of class.

With such ongoing support we have implemented monthly Monday workdays. In February the cart paths were trimmed. Don’t miss out: sign-up sheets for the March Workday are on the ledge outside the Pro Shop.

Thank you to Gary Hall for his many weeks of forensic investigation from which he was able to compile a complete list of our 477 members. Manager Dave Jones, along with Pam VanLaningham and Jerry Lingen, our courteous and conscientious Pro Shop staff, also deserve special recognition for willingly taking on additional hours in January to ensure our players were well served.

If you want to keep up with what is happening, check out our website on a regular basis. News feeds has the monthly GM report. Election results are posted on the home page. Tournament information and tee time changes and current financial statements are available as well.
