Coatta, Roland Joseph, 85, passed away in Chandler, Arizona, on Friday, April 11. He was born in Canada with dual citizenship and proudly served this country. He joined the US Navy in 1951 and served four years on the aircraft carrier, USS BOXER, CVA 21-Korea and Southeast Asia. In 1955, he joined the US Air Force, serving Western Europe, Middle East, North Africa and the USA completing his military career of 21 years. He is survived by his wife, Irene; children, John R. Coatta, Michele M. Coatta, Daniele M. Coatta DuFord; step children, Daniel L. Johansen, D. Lee Johansen, Diane Johansen Wills, 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle M. Coatta Hume and brother, Earl J. Coatta Jr. A memorial mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Chandler. Following, there was a Celebration of Life from 1:00–3:00 p.m. in the Ballroom at SunBird Golf Resort in Chandler. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
