Donald Samuel Fleming

Donald Samuel Fleming, 81, of Traverse City, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Donald was born in Newlin, Pennsylvania, on June 26, 1933 to his parents, the late Samuel R. Fleming and Laura (Lindemuth) Fleming.

Donald began his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Pennsylvania and graduated from Locust Township High School in 1951. In 1954, he earned a degree from Lebanon Valley College, where he met and married the love of his life, Janice.

Donald was a successful business leader for 26 years while employed with Western Electric/AT&T.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and always respected and appreciated all the men and women who serve our country.

He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. He especially enjoyed wintering in Arizona, where he golfed and played water volleyball. He was an avid sailor, fisherman, tennis player and hunter. Don always said, “Family first and have a little fun each day.”

Janice, his wife of 59 years, survives him as do his two children, Larry and Brenda and two grandchildren, Kayla and Brooks.

A celebration of his life will be held at his beloved family farm at a future date.
