On Tuesday, March 1 (rescheduled from February 23), Greg Podd, Rotary International Vice President, will be the speaker. Podd is a Certified Public Accountant and Personal Financial Specialist and has operated his own practice since 1979.
A Rotarian since 1982, he is a member of the Evergreen Rotary Club of Evergreen, Colorado. Podd has served Rotary as RI president’s representative, major gifts adviser, member of the Finance and Investment committees, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, regional RI membership zone coordinator, Council on Legislation representative, training leader, Rotary Foundation Future Vision training leader, district governor, and assistant chief sergeant-at-arms at the International Assembly.
During his professional tenure, he has been a keynote speaker at five national conferences. Greg has taught many courses as a guest professor at Arizona State University in the Master of Taxation program and has made presentations to over 20,000 Certified Public Accountants and Chartered Accountants from the United States and foreign countries.
On Tuesday, March 8, the Chandler High School Treblemakers, a unique girls’ choir that sings strictly in four-part harmony, will perform. The Treblemakers are renowned throughout the barbershop world, singing at several international events over the past years. This will be a musical treat; one not to be missed.
On Tuesday, March 22, Rotarian Julian Pickens will discuss drug addiction. Julian is a family therapist specializing in substance abuse. He holds degrees from New Orleans Baptist Seminary, Tulane University, University of Alabama, University of Northern Alabama, and Rutgers University. With drug addiction rampant throughout the country among all ages, this will be an important presentation to attend. He will talk about addiction in general with some history as background information, and then focus on the present with specific info about addiction among seniors and their families. He will discuss the various types of treatment and move into recovery for the addicted persons.
On Tuesday, March 29, Rotarian David Mork will discuss the most recent banking crisis in America. David has a BA from the University of Minnesota. He is a holder of three designations, CPA (now inactive), CIRA – a Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor, and is a CTP Emeritus – Certified Turnaround Professional. His 40-year career centered on rendering financial advisory services in business turnarounds, restructuring and bankruptcy practice areas, and to the FDIC; all of which require special knowledge and extensive relevant experience. Such expertise includes accounting, operations, strategic, taxation, and finance issues related to business bankruptcy and insolvency. If you’ve ever wondered why your FDIC insured bank failed during the crisis in the 1990s or the most recent crisis, come to this meeting to hear how and why this crisis became a National concern.
