National Day of Prayer May 3

Jeanette Cline

The community, both men and women, are invited to attend one of many events for the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the SunBird Golf Resort, 6250 S. SunBird Blvd, Chandler, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. The ballroom will sport red, white and blue décor in commemoration of this special day set aside nationally to focus on prayer needs within our American life. Sun Lakes Women’s Connection is hosting this event.

In keeping with this year’s theme of UNITY, there will be representatives from our various ethnic groups to participate in scriptures and prayers. Speakers will also include those from our military, our government, our education, our business, our churches and our families.

It will be a very patriotic day of music, as well. A military brass instrumental group will provide the preprogram music of military and patriotic songs beginning at 9:30 a.m. There will also be vocal soloists, a men’s quartet and instrumentalists participating, along with audience participation in singing patriotic songs.

Prayer has been an important facet of our country since its beginning. In 1775, the Continental Congress called for a day of Fasting and Prayer. President Lincoln declared a National Day of Prayer and Fasting in 1863. Then in 1983, the first National Day of Prayer Observance was held in Constitution Hall. President Regan set aside a designated day for national prayer in 1987. The following year, he designated the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.

The public is cordially invited to attend, so invite your neighbors and friends to join you in attending this National Day of Prayer FREE event. The SunBird Golf Resort is on the south side of Riggs Road between McQueen and Cooper.
