Mark your calendars for our special events in June! Also, our Summer Reading Program is up and running, from June 1 to August 1. It’s for all ages, preschoolers to adults. Sign up today for fun online challenges and be eligible for prize drawings. Upon completion, you’ll earn a free book!

Thursday, June 1, at 1:00 p.m. – The Great Grand Canyon Balloon Show

Come see the most incredible balloon creations ever! Arizona Rick will tell stories, play games and do a little magic, all with balloons. Appropriate for ages 4-12, but all are welcome.

Saturday, June 1, at 1:00 p.m. – Self Defense at Any Age with Krav Maga*

Want to feel more confident and secure? Come learn about the self-defense system of Krav Maga. Presentation will include demonstrations of defenses in common situations and learn how to build a framework for protecting yourself and your family. Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Friends of the Library.

Tuesday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. – DIY Teens: T-Shirt Totes

Is your favorite tee worn down, or has it seen better days? Don’t throw it away! We’ll turn old t-shirts into tote bags. Bring an old shirt, or just bring yourself (t-shirts and supplies will all be provided). We’ll play music and have a good time.

Tuesday, June 13, at 1:00 p.m. – Signs of the Times with Marshall Shore*

The rise of car travel in the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s meant that thousands of people were traversing the broad expanses of the Southwest. As the cars sped past, businesses needed large, bright signs to make an impression. “Hip Historian” Marshall Shore explores the rise of the iconic images that defined the West in the age of the automobile.

Thursdays, June 15, 22 and 29 – Preschool Storytime

Join us for fun with books, songs, action-rhymes, flannelboards, crafts and more. Activities are developmentally appropriate for ages 3-6, but all ages are welcome. Be ready to sing, learn and discover!

Tuesday, June 20, at 1:00 p.m. – Photographer Dorothea Lange: Visions of Chandler*

The Chandler Museum presents a fascinating look at photographer Dorothea Lange and her time photographing images of Chandler in the late 1930s and early 1940s, symbolizing the impact of the Great Depression.

Thursday, June 22, at 1:00 p.m. – Awesome Occupations: Meet a Park Ranger*

Do you love animals and the outdoors? Ever wonder what it takes to be a Park Ranger? Come meet San Tan Mountain Regional Park Ranger Nikki Bunnell who will also bring a few animal friends! Geared for ages 5-12, but all are welcome. Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Friends of the Library.

Monday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m. – It’s a Mystery to Me: Storytime for Grownups

Do you love to know “whodunit”?? Join us for this grownup storytime, featuring a mystery short story or two. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack and enjoy being read to!

Wednesday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m. – Soldering Touch Sensitive Robots

Hands-on make and take soldering project. Make your own robot figure that lights up! This is a great demonstration of how transistors work to boost the signal from a sensor. Ages 10 and up. No experience needed. Registration required. Sponsored by the Sun Lakes Friends of the Library.

*On the day of the program, please come by the library customer service desk for a free ticket, limit two per person. Please park in the church lot next to the library.
