It’s hot and getting hotter; not the weather, but pickleball

People have been pickling since the ‘60s, but in the last couple of years, it has really grown quickly. The SunBird Pickleball Club plays Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Fridays from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. and some Saturdays.

Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple, and the game is easy for beginners to learn but can develop into a quick, fast-paced competitive game for experienced players. The game is a combination of the elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis played at the tennis courts with lower nets. In SunBird, we call them Sports Courts!

Beginners are encouraged and welcome to come give the game a try. Paddles and balls are furnished for beginners. You need to wear court shoes and sign an HOA waiver. There is even a new member orientation. Anyone interested can email Marianna at [email protected].

Once you come out and give pickleball a try, it’s inevitable you’ll love it because it is so much fun and very social. While stimulating your brain and exercising your body, you benefit from this team sport.

Come pickle with the friends and neighbors of SunBird.
