Garden Club news

The Garden Club’s first meeting of the 2015-2016 year was held on November 13 in the Ballroom. This has been a challenging beginning for Jean Mrugala, the current President. She lost three of the people in key positions due to health issues, the Vice President, historian and home tour organizer. However, the membership saw the need and jumped forward to fill the empty positions. What a blessing for Jean and our entire club! Once the offices were filled, we discussed having more publicity about the club, so the residents of SunBird could see just how much the Garden Club does to beautify and maintain the community. The Home Tour was discussed and Lois Anderson organized the group in a flash.

A speaker is planned for January and planning for the Valentine’s Brunch is underway. Now it is back to current work. Toni Greisiger (480-895-4459) made a request for more gardeners and Gudie Huffman (480-802-9906) needs more people to water. If you can help, please contact the people above. Gudie reported that this summer the Garden Club purchased and was responsible for the landscaping around the new pool. Pots were replaced around the Clubhouse and cleanup was done. SunBird Boulevard needs to have cactus removed, but we are waiting for a gas tank to be removed before beginning to replant the area.

January 8 is the first meeting of the New Year. The speaker, Mr. Ron Dinchak, will enlighten us on ”The Right Plant for the Right Place,” which is information we all could use, especially if we hail from somewhere other than the Southwest. Mr. Dinchak is a retired educator with 42 years of service at Mesa College in environmental biology and natural history. What a resource!

Join the Garden Club on January 8 and discover how you can make your garden grow!
