From the pro shop

Hello, SunBird, welcome to February, warmer weather (no snow), great golf, beautiful golf course and sunshine. I hope everyone had a good start for the new year and will have a great upcoming year in 2017.

Last month we had our Founders Tournament Scramble on January 28, hosted by the Horizon Room. I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed the golf, food and pre-tournament party. As of the writing of this article, I do not know who the winners are, but if you had a chance to play and had fun with your team, then everyone is a winner.

A couple of golf events coming up in February that are open to the public are the Bandit’s “Triple Play” Golf Tournament which is a two-person team event on February 18, and the Kare Bear’s four-person Scramble Golf Tournament on February 25. Sign-up forms are available in the Pro Shop or in the hallway outside the Pro Shop. Both events have been very enjoyable in the past, and we always look forward to the next time when we get to see new players come out and have some fun.

On February 19, the morning shotguns will be starting at 8:00 a.m., and afternoon tee times will start at noon. Monday through Saturday will have morning shotguns and afternoon tee times, and Sunday will be tee times all day starting at 8:00 a.m. The Pro Shop has added a few new additions to our staff this year—in the Pro Shop we have Donna Kleinow and for Outside Services we have Larry Freund and Don Kleinow. We will be having a Sweetheart Sale starting on February 10 through February 14, so you can get your special someone a gift. We have been selling gift cards online on our website under the stores section. If you currently have a paper gift certificate from SunBird Pro Shop, please bring it in and we can transfer the balances onto gift cards for you.

There has been some talk about “Pace of Play,” and as the weather gets nicer, we will see a lot of golfers coming out to play. This is more of a concern when we have shotgun starts, as there are approximately 120 golfers going in 18 different directions at the same time. It is understandable that everyone wants to enjoy their round and we want you to have fun. There are some tips posted about “Pace of Play” in the hallway; please remember to be considerate about the golfers behind your group, and if your group is playing faster than the group in front of you, be courteous and do not try and rush them.

Hope everyone has a great February and Happy Valentine’s Day. Dave and the rest of the Pro Shop Staff
