Wednesday, April 6 at 10:30 a.m. – The Eagle and the Archaeologists: The Lindberghs’ 1929 Aerial Survey of Southwest Prehistoric Sites
Pilot Charles Lindbergh (the “Lone Eagle”) is best known for his famous 1927 flight across the Atlantic Ocean. But Lindbergh and his wife, Anne, also played an important role in Southwestern archaeology. During the summer of 1929, they worked with noted archaeologist Alfred Kidder to conduct the first extensive aerial photographic survey of Southwestern prehistoric sites. The presentation features many of their historic photographs and describes this important – but little known – early partnership between aviation and archaeology. Presenter Erik Berg is an award-winning historian and writer with a special interest in the early 20th century Southwest and the impact of science and technology. On the day of the program, please pick up a free ticket at the library front desk. There is a limit of two tickets per person. Seating is limited. Thursday, April 7 at 1:00 p.m. -The Art of Chinese Calligraphy
Learn the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy and use this brush writing technique on a bookmark which says “Happy Year of the Monkey.” Attendees will also paint images on Chinese Rice Paper. Class will be taught by Diana Ho from Phoenix Chinese Week. Limited to 25 attendees. Registration starts on March 1.

Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. – Soldier’s Best Friend: Service Dogs for Veterans
Phoenix-based non-profit, Soldier’s Best Friend, has become instrumental in providing service dogs to veterans of all ages suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Traumatic Brain Injury. Those accepted into the program are paired with rescue dogs at no cost to the veteran and full training is provided. Join us to learn more about this inspirational program, and meet a veteran and his service dog who will demonstrate one of the successful partnerships created by Soldier’s Best Friend. Want to hear a good mystery story? Join us for Witness for the Prosecution by Agatha Christie. Originally entitled Traitor Hands and later adapted into a play and then a film, this has long been considered one of Christie’s finest short stories. Feel free to bring a lunch or snack and enjoy being read to!

Jack Burns, Public Affairs Specialist with the Social Security Administration, talks about requirements, filing options and resources to help you navigate an often confusing system. Prior to attending, it’s recommended that you create your “My Social Security Account” at http://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/. The uses of this online program will be discussed during the presentation.
