On Tuesday, February 7, an executive from First Solar will talk about the power of solar energy. On Tuesday, February 14, Wesley Delbridge, the Food and Nutrition Director for the Chandler Unified School District Food and Nutrition Department, will speak about nutrition in our schools. At CUSD, he oversees a team of more than 300 employees who focus on promoting school nutrition, creating and serving healthy food and decreasing childhood obesity, serving more than 45,000 students. He is also an adjunct faculty member teaching food science at Chandler Gilbert Community College. He designed and created the first school nutrition smart phone app, “CUSD Food,” and is committed to changing the perception of school meals through new and innovative communication tools. Delbridge is also a National Media Spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics and has been featured in the New York Times, Fox News and Reader’s Digest. He was awarded the 2013 Health Education Media Maker award and was president of the School Nutrition Association of Arizona. Delbridge graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University where he was named the Most Outstanding Senior.
On Tuesday, January 28th, Jena Phillips, Arizona Education Foundation’s educational ambassador of excellence, will talk about the process it took to become an ambassador. She is a 20-year veteran teacher. She teaches for the CATs gifted science program at Bogle Jr. High School. She is a former recipient of Sun Lakes Rotary Club’s teacher of the month award.
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes meets for breakfast every Tuesday morning at 6:30 a.m. in the Oakwood Country Club Ballroom.
