Carnival of Tennis games in memory of Ray White

Mark your calendars … the SunBird Tennis Club and the Chandler Lions Club will be hosting a charity event; namely, Carnival of Tennis Games, in memory of Ray White. Ray was a devout member of the Tennis Club and a player dedicated to promoting the sport and teaching SunBird residents how to play. Ray spent countless hours at the tennis courts helping others with their strokes, their serves and all-around game. He loved the game of tennis.

The charity will be held at the SunBird tennis courts on Sunday, January 14, 2018. The time will be 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event will be for the benefit of SunBird’s charities. Your entrance donation is $8 per person; children under 12 are FREE.

You will play 10 fun games such as Bola Ball/Bola Pong, ladder ball, bean bag bucketz, golf with a tennis racket and others that will test your sports ability. If you think you are a talented tennis player, you can spend $1 to test your skills at serving tennis balls to find out if you are as good as Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer, the top two players in the world. We will even consider letting you pitch a ball to see how fast you can pitch. If you win minimally three games, you get a FREE coke. Win more and get chips or hot dog FREE.

Again, mark your calendar for January 14, 2018, for fun at the SunBird tennis courts. Celebrate with us as we pay tribute to the life of Ray White and all his contributions to SunBird residents both on and off the tennis court.

A great big “Thank You” to the Chandler Lions Club for helping the Tennis Club put this event on and to all those who hav.olunteered their time to this effort.

Thanks to the Horizon Room who will be on-site selling hot dogs and refreshments and to Lane Varney whose thoughts and ideas have helped put this event together.

Also, come out and cheer for the SunBird Tennis Club at upcoming tournaments on February 10 at SunBird; an in-house event on February 24. If you like to travel, join us on March 10 at Oakwood Golf Resort or on March 17 at Springfield Tennis Club.

If you like the team concept, SunBird has two teams … the SunBird Sabrs and the SunBird Crush, both participating in the Southeast Valley Tennis League. We play at home on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. or come and watch the SunBird Sunchix or the SunBird Volley Girls on Fridays at 10:30 p.m.

Tennis is the name of the game … it integrates the best athletic qualities of the world’s greatest sports … speed and quick reflexes, precision and touch, strength, strategic and tactical thinking, endurance and character with mental stamina. It is the most complete sport that has a great history and played on an international stage.
