Arrangements are being finalized for the annual Kare Bear Golf Tournament on February 25, with sign-in at 8:00 a.m.; shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Format is four person scramble, 120 players maximum! Hurry and get your foursome together for the meager price of $40 per person. Included in the price is a savory lunch and prizes. Registration slips will be available in the pro shop after February 1. The tournament results will be reported in the April issue of SunBird News.

Our gratitude to Jackie Baker and her committee for devoting their time, creativity, and organizational skills to the monumental success of our Christmas luncheon. Margaret Ryan spoke on behalf of St. Vincent de Paul food pantry at St. Mary’s, expressing her appreciation to the Kare Bears for our generous donations, both of canned food and funding as well as the loyal and faithful volunteers who commit their time to this organization.

We were mesmerized by SunBird resident Suzanne Popleka as she skillfully and melodically entertained us with folk music and Christmas carols on the harp. Thank you, Suzanne, for sharing your talent with us.

The next Kare Bear meeting will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the SunBird Ballroom. We are delighted for the opportunity to hear Dr. Robert Anderson from Impressions Foot and Ankle educate us on the pivotal topic, “Flip flops and high heels.” Have you ever wondered what effect they have on your feet? Come and learn from an expert in the profession!

Also, Raijani Rastogi from Hamilton High School, who has developed programs to aid the homeless and deprived students and their families, will be giving us an update on the program. Last year, Raijani was the only employee working in this program in a student body of over 4,000. She is grateful for her new assistant, who was a volunteer, and now is employed to support her in this meritorious effort.

Don’t forget the Kare Bear Fair on February 4. Vendors with shoes, t-shirts, jewelry, hats, health and beauty products and watch battery replacement will be in attendance. Many other products, as well as the popular white elephant table, will be offered. In addition, the Girl Scouts will offer those delicious Girl Scout cookies for sale. Remember that usable items for our white elephant and boutique table are always appreciated. Donations and pick-ups can be arranged through Sherry Fann at 480-883-1167

The Kare Bear organization is now in its 23rd year! If you have inquiries about membership, please contact Deanna Calvert, Margaret Spear, Linda Bengston or Larie Thibeault.
